Jose lives alone in his small apartment in Havana; his son moved to the US, as many young Cubans do, so Jose hasn’t seen him for a very long time. He has his son’s pictures hanging on the wall — as a lasting reminder of him.

Vedado is a central business district and urban neighborhood in Havana, Cuba. It is a more modern part of the city, developed in the first half of the 20th century during the Republic period. This is the neighborhood where I stayed and where most of the people I photographed for the “Young Cuba” portrait series live.
